6 steps will minimise risk from trial contact lenses

1 Decontaminated immediately after contact lens with the eye surface
2 Rinsed in Water for Irrigation BP (not tap water) for not less than 30 seconds
3 Cleaned on all surfaces with a liquid soap or detergent, then rinsed in Water for Irrigation BP for a further 30 seconds
4 Immersed in a freshly prepared solution of sodium hypochlorite providing 10,000ppm of available chlorine for 10 minutes
5 Rinsed in three changes of Water for Irrigation BP for a total of not less than 10 minutes
6 Shaken to remove excess water, dried with a disposable tissue, and stored dry in a suitable container.

By wear time, there are two types,daily contact lens and extended wear lens.

Daily contact lens is designed to be removed prior to sleeping. An extended wear lens is designed for continuous overnight wear, typically for more than 6 hours wearing. Latest materials, such as silicone hydrogels, allow for even longer wear periods of up to 30 days wearing,that's market called monthly lens.

Rigid gas permeable lenses are very durable and may last for several years without the need for replacement. PMMA hard lenses were very durable, and were commonly worn for 5 to 10 years.
